Happy Draft Week! The Seattle Sounders hold the 22nd pick in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft presented by adidas, as well as the 45th and 68th overall selections. The first two rounds of the draft will be held on Friday in Philadelphia, while the final two rounds will be take place via conference call on Sunday.
The Sounders held the 22nd pick in last year’s draft, too, and selected defender Brian Nana-Sinkam. The Stanford product appeared in 27 matches along the backline for S2 in 2017.
Under General Manager & President of Soccer Garth Lagerwey, the Sounders have experienced success in the MLS SuperDraft. In 2015, Lagerwey memorably made a trade with his former club, Real Salt Lake, to take Cristian Roldan with the 16th pick. The next year, Seattle acquired Joevin Jones in a trade with the Chicago Fire.
In all, seven of Seattle’s selections over the past three seasons made the First Team roster – Roldan, Oniel Fisher, Tyler Miller, Charlie Lyon, Andy Craven, Zach Mathers and Tony Alfaro. Add in the trade for Jones, and Lagerwey has compiled an impressive slate of Sounders the past few years.
