Welcome back, Nico!
In his first MLS match since learning he just missed making the final cut for Uruguay's World Cup squad, Sounders midfielder Nicolás Lodeiro had an amazing effort in a 2-1 win over D.C. United on Saturday, including this stunning equalizer. To little surprise, MLS has nominated the Designated Player for Week 15 Goal of the Week.
In the 57th minute, defender Kelvin Leerdam tossed the ball into the area, where D.C. United was unable to get a full clearance. Lodeiro smashed a one-time volley from the top of the area into the right side of the net.
Lodeiro joins Josef Martinez (ATL), Tomas Martinez (HOU), Bastian Schweinsteiger (CHI) and Chris Wondolowski (SJ) as nominees. Voting will take place until noon Pacific Time on Wednesday and you may only vote once.
