MATCH RECAP: Wingo scores twice in 3-2 victory for S2 at Cheney Stadium

Henry Wingo S2 8-11-18

TACOMA, WASH. – Sounders FC 2 (5-14-2, 17 points) on Saturday earned a 3-2 victory over San Antonio FC (9-6-7, 34 points) for its second consecutive home win at Cheney Stadium. First Team midfielder Henry Wingo recorded a brace while Shandon Hopeau netted the game-winner in the 68th minute, as S2 improves to 5-6-0 at home in its first season in Tacoma.

Seattle got on the board early when Denso Ulysse surged up the right hand side in the fifth minute and found Wingo, who weaved through four defenders before beating San Antonio goalkeeper Diego Restrepo. An own goal from S2 evened the match in the 13th minute, just seconds after Seattle captain Sam Rogers was forced from the match due to injury. The road side pulled ahead, 2-1, in the 24th minute on a goal by Ever Guzman.

In first-half stoppage time, Wingo bagged his second of the night when fellow First Team player Alex Roldan found him near the top of the six-yard box. Wingo quickly slotted it past the goalkeeper to even the score at 2-2. In the 68th minute, Hopeau fired a rocket from far outside the area into the left hand side of the goal to give S2 three points. The marker was Hopeau’s first of the season, with Azriel Gonzalez credited with the assist.

The Rave Green played the remaining 13 minutes with 10 men after forward David Olsen was issued his second yellow card in the 77th minute.

S2 has now scored three goals in each of its last two home matches, equaling its highest goal total in any game this season. Seattle has won two matches in a three-game span for the first time this season.

Sounders FC 2 returns to action next Sunday, August 19 at Portland Timbers 2. Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m. PT, and the match will be live-streamed on ESPN+.
