A comprehensive breakdown of the Seattle Sounders' train animation seen on social media

Cascadia Cup cele 9/15/18

All aboard!

Following Saturday’s 2-1 win at BC Place, Sounders FC's social media channels posted an epic animation to celebrate the nine-match winning streak, which was done in coordination with our friends at 2Tall Studios. Check it out here:

Did you catch all the hidden details as the train is crossing the U.S.A.-Canada border? Let’s break it down.

LEAD LOCOMOTIVE

Nico Lodeiro, who has five goals and four assists since July 21, is the engineer of the train, which is appropriately named “206” after the Seattle area code.

FIRST CAR

Vancouver Whitecaps 2-0

This match, which started the winning streak, marked the debut of forward Raúl Ruidiaz, who played in the 2018 FIFA World Cup for Peru.

SECOND CAR

San Jose Earthquakes 1-0

Ruidíaz scored the match’s lone goal, his first as a Sounder, and celebrated with the Peruvian flag.

THIRD CAR

NYCFC 2-1

The goose is loose! Gustav Svensson’s rip highlighted the home win against one of the top teams in the East.

FOURTH CAR

Minnesota United 2-1

Who can forget the comeback in Minnesota? It was Will “The Bear” Bruin who netted the chip in garbage time, so a bear eating chips next to a dumpster? Sure!

FIFTH CAR

FC Dallas 2-1

Hello, Brad Smith! The Australia native, on loan from AFC Bournemouth of the English Premier League, made his debut for the Sounders in a win against FC Dallas.

SIXTH CAR

LA Galaxy 5-0

The Rave Green Scoring Machine put up five goals against the LA Galaxy, matching the club record for biggest scoring margin in an MLS match.

LOGS

Portland Timbers 1-0

Just like the animation of the logging truck making its way up I-5, the logs returned on the train. Pinned underneath the logs is Pennywise the Clown with a deflated red balloon tied to the post – both references to Portland’s IT-inspired tifo from last month.

EIGHTH CAR

Sporting KC 3-1

The win against Sporting KC broke the record (literally, according to the train) for most consecutive single-season wins in the MLS post-shooutout era.

NINTH CAR

It’s a party! Stefan Frei, Ozzie Alonso and Cristian Roldan are celebrating the Cascadia Cup after beating the Vancouver Whitecaps 2-1. The captain has the cup, while it turns out Roldan was the one painting the results on each train car.
