TACOMA, WASH. – Tacoma Defiance (1-2-0, 3 points) on Saturday fell 4-0 to Tulsa Roughnecks FC (2-0-1, 7 points) in its first road match of the season. Luca Lobo scored twice and added an assist for Tulsa, which recorded its first shutout of the 2019 campaign.
In the eighth minute, Rodrigo da Costa sent a free kick into the area and Cyprian Hedrick headed it into the back of the net to give Tulsa a 1-0 advantage. At the 20-minute mark, Lobo found Cristhian Altamirano who chipped Defiance goalkeeper Sam Fowler to put Tulsa ahead, 2-0.
On another free kick late in the first half, da Costa found the head of Lobo, who headed home his first goal of the evening and gave Tulsa a 3-0 halftime advantage. In the 57th minute, Lobo found a loose ball in the area and finished past Fowler to put the hosts ahead, 4-0.
Seven players under the age of 20 saw action for Tacoma tonight, including one Sounders FC Academy player in Fowler.
Tacoma Defiance returns home to Cheney Stadium on Friday, March 29 against New Mexico United (7:00 p.m. PT / ESPN+). The club then hosts Sacramento Republic FC on Monday, April 1 in Tacoma (7:00 p.m. PT / ESPN+).
