Major League Soccer on Monday named Seattle Sounders defender Kelvin Leerdam to the Week 17 Team of the Week for his performance in the Rave Green’s 1-0 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday.
With the match seemingly destined for a draw, Leerdam secured three massive points for the Rave Green six minutes into second-half stoppage time, settling a pass from fellow defender Brad Smith and firing home the decisive goal. The Dutch defender, who sits second on the team in goals scored with five, also put in a solid shift defensively, as the team recorded its sixth clean sheet of the 2019 season.
The Sounders hit the road once again this week with a clash against New York City FC on Wednesday (4:00 p.m. PT; JOEtv, YouTube TV, 950 KJR AM, El Rey 1360 AM).
