There will be a familiar face for Seattle sports fans at CenturyLink Field this weekend.
Seattle Mariners legend and soon-to-be National Baseball Hall of Fame inductee Edgar Martinez will lead the Seattle Sounders in Scarves Up prior to kickoff for the Seattle Sounders’ Week 19 MLS matchup against Atlanta United (12:55 p.m. PT; ESPN, YouTube TV, 950 KJR AM, El Rey 1360 AM, TICKETS).
Martinez, 56, is one of the most beloved figures in the history of the Mariners organization. He spent 18 seasons with the franchise, making the All-Star game on seven occasions and winning the Silver Slugger Award five times.
After retiring from professional baseball in 2004, he returned to the organization in 2015, serving as the team’s hitting coach for four seasons. In 2019, Martinez was elected into the Hall of Fame with 85.4% of the vote from the Baseball Writers’ Association of America.
Exactly one week after Sunday’s match against Atlanta, Martinez will officially be inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
Fans are encouraged to arrive at CenturyLink Field early on Sunday to take part in Scarves Up with one of Seattle’s most iconic sports figures.
