Sounders FC today selected two players on the first day of the 2020 MLS SuperDraft presented by adidas. Both coming in the second round, the Rave Green took UNC Wilmington defender Danny Reynolds with the 35th overall pick, then chose UNLV midfielder Timo Mehlich with the 52nd overall selection.
Reynolds, 22, was named the 2019 Colonial Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Year while earning First Team All-CAA and NCCSIA All-State recognition in his senior year. He was the Seahawks’ second-leading scorer with four goals and 13 points in 2019. As a junior in 2018, he was named to the All-Tournament Team at the CAA Championship after scoring a goal against Hofstra in the semifinals. The Englishman started 34 of his 40 games for Louisville before transferring to UNC Wilmington.
Mehlich, 22, led UNLV in minutes (1,673), goals (11) shots (63) and shots on goal (28) in his senior year of 2019. Despite playing through several injuries in his junior season, he was named Second Team All-WAC and finished with three goals and four assists. Mehlich appeared in 23 matches as a freshman in 2016 and won 2016 MAC Freshman of the Year honors before earning a First Team All-WAC selection as a sophomore in 2017.
