Who doesn’t love Broldans content?
On Tuesday, Cristian and Alex Roldan took over the Sounders Instagram account for a live Q&A session with fans of the Rave Green. With the state of Washington practicing social distancing in an effort to battle COVID-19, the players now have the time to interact directly with supporters, showing sides of their personality that the public might not normally see.
It got off to an incredible start, with former Sounder and current Brand Ambassador Brad Evans asking why Alex is so much better looking.
“My short answer to that is you can’t have it all right,” laughed Cristian. “Sometimes you have more skill in other areas. Some people were just blessed with better genes.”
Always the diplomat, Alex tried to pay a compliment to Momma Roldan but had to catch himself halfway through to make clear he wasn’t dissing his dad.
“I’ll say I got it from my mom,” She’s beautiful. I got a little bit of her genes and maybe Cristian got – not saying it’s a shot to my dad! But my mom is beautiful so maybe I got it from her.”
They also gave a shoutout to local craft distillery, Heritage Distilling Co, which has pivoted their production toward making hand sanitizer as the world battles COVID-19. Their product is available at HDC tasting rooms and online.
"We obviously want them to do well, especially during this time," Cristian said. "Give them a shout and check them out."
Over the course of the IG Live session, the pair fielded a plethora of questions on numerous topics. They also took a couple of jabs at honorary Broldan, Jordan Morris.
“If there’s a player that Jordan resembles in basketball, I’d say it’s Charles Barkley,” Alex joked.
Teammates on the pitch and roommates off it, the duo talked about the unique opportunity they have to play on the same professional soccer.
“So far, we’ve had a great time,” said Alex. “We won a championship together last year. It’s something that ourselves and our family were able to experience together. So, it’s super cool, super unique.”
Lots of the questions centered on inside scoops about the dynamic of the locker room. According to the Broldans, Raúl Ruidíaz is obviously the best dancer. And although they debated whether Ruidíaz or Xavier Arreaga is the funniest guy on the team, they were adamant that Morris has got some jokes.
“Jordan’s a sleeper, man. He has little remarks, his little comments here and there that just make you crack up.”
The whole Instagram Q&A was a light, fun respite as the community finds itself in an unprecedented situation.
Yes, Major League Soccer is taking a break as the world tackles the COVID-19 crisis. It’s disappointing. But Cristian put everything in perspective when he was asked about not being able to play the game they love.
“It’s a tough time right now for the world,” he said. “For the greater good of the world, things have to be put on pause. No company, no business, no sport is bigger than what’s going on right now. Take care of everybody. Stay at home, practice social distancing. It’s very important that we isolate ourselves and do our part in the community so we can play soon in CenturyLink.”
