SEATTLE, WASH. – Sounders FC forward Raúl Ruidíaz has been voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week for the sixth week of the 2020 MLS season. Ruidíaz scored two goals and added an assist on Sunday evening in Seattle’s 3-0 win over Portland at Providence Park.

After over 70 minutes of scoreless play, Ruidíaz put Seattle on the board in the 72nd minute, meeting a low cross from Joevin Jones at the near post for a one-touch finish at a sharp angle, hitting the crossbar before bouncing off the back of Portland goalkeeper Steve Clark into the net. The Peruvian made it 2-0 in the 83rd minute, catching the home side off-guard after a goal kick and chipping a shot over Clark, his fourth goal of the season. Ruidíaz assisted Seattle’s third goal, holding off a Portland defender inside the area and laying a ball off to an onrushing Kelvin Leerdam, who blasted into the net.

The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season through both media and fan voting in a process conducted by MLS Communications. A panel of journalists from the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) comprises 75 percent of the vote, while a Twitter fan vote represents the remaining 25 percent of voting. NASR consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
