MLK Jr. Elementary is one of the 52 RAVE Foundation mini pitches built across Washington state, creating safe and accessible spaces where kids and communities can play, connect, and thrive through soccer. Located in Seattle’s Central District, the pitch reflects the foundation’s broader commitment to equity, representation, and community impact.
That commitment comes to life in the artwork at the center of the field. A celebrated Seattle portrait artist whose work sits at the intersection of beauty and justice, Teddy “STAT” Phillips became the creative force behind Sounders FC’s commitment to fight racism in the summer of 2020 — a social impact pillar that endures to this day.
When RAVE brought a mini pitch to MLK Jr. Elementary, Teddy created a portrait of Dr. King that now lives in the center circle, turning a field for play into a canvas for history.
