The Process

Each year, a Nomination Committee of alumni, staff, ownership, and Alliance Council members builds the ballot for the Circle of Legends. Fans, alumni, media, staff, and other stakeholders then cast weighted votes, with Alliance Members holding the largest share. To be inducted, a candidate must earn at least 75% of the total vote, making the Circle of Legends the highest honor in Sounders history.

Nomination Committee

The Nomination Committee is the group that creates the official ballot for the Circle of Legends each year. Members come from across the Sounders family—alumni, ownership, staff, and Alliance Council—bringing different perspectives to the table.

Who’s on the Committee?

  • 4 Sounders FC Alumni
  • 2 Alliance Council members
  • 2 Ownership representatives
  • 2 Sounders FC staff
  • 1 WA State Legends of Soccer representative

Committee members serve for three years, ensuring new voices and fresh perspectives over time. Their job is to carefully review eligible players, coaches, and builders, and decide who advances to the final vote.

Selection Electorate

The Selection Electorate is the community of fans, alumni, and club leaders who cast the votes to decide each year’s Legends. Every group has a share of the vote, ensuring balance and representation:

  • 25% Alliance Members (Fans)
  • 20% Sounders FC Alumni
  • 15% Alliance Council
  • 15% Ownership
  • 15% Seattle Soccer Media
  • 10% Sounders FC Staff

To be inducted, a candidate must receive at least 75% of the total vote in their category. This high threshold ensures only the most impactful figures in Sounders history are enshrined.
