Joe Welsh
Director of Information Technology Systems
Joe Welsh enters his 10th season with the organization in 2024, and seventh as head of the Information Technology department. In this role, Welsh oversees all the cybersecurity and technology initiatives for Sounders FC as well as IT infrastructure at the Providence Swedish Performance Center & Clubhouse, the club’s headquarters. He also serves on the Major League Soccer Information Security Committee, where league-wide cybersecurity policies are developed and implemented. Previously, Welsh served as head of IT for the Anthony’s Restaurants brand, where he specialized in the point-of-sale infrastructure and the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI-DSS).
Born and raised as a Seattleite, Welsh received his Undergraduate degree in Business Administration from the University of Washington and master’s degree in information technology management from Southern New Hampshire University. He has also received the Certified Information Security Systems professional (CISSP) and Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) designations, Additionally, Joe holds certifications from Cisco, Microsoft and CompTIA and is active in IT related blogs and support groups.
Welsh lives in Beacon Hill with his wife, Kyla, daughter, Abigale, and three dogs, Bella, Odin and Kona. In his free time, he is an avid DIYer, can get down in the kitchen, has a fairly decent green thumb in the garden, can ham in up on the dance floor and is working on his French fluency so he can expand his love of all things travel.
