Major League Soccer on Monday named Seattle Sounders right back Alex Roldan to the Matchday 2 Team of the Matchday following his two-assist performance in the Rave Green's dominant 2-0 win over Real Salt Lake on Saturday. Winger Jordan Morris, who grabbed the game-winning goal at Lumen Field, was named to the Team of the Matchday bench as well.
Roldan's inclusion on this list comes as no surprise. Playing in a more advanced role in Seattle's new tactical setup, he was a constant threat going forward with his quick combination play and clever movement off the ball. In addition to setting up both goals with inch-perfect crosses, Roldan routinely picked apart RSL's defensive shape win possession and helped quickly win the ball back whenever Seattle turned it over. In the rare moments when RSL managed forward, he was resolute in his defending and completely nullified any threat from the visitor's wide players.
Coming off a brace in the home opener, Morris continued his red-hot form to start the campaign by getting on the scoresheet for the second match in a row. While most of Morris's success against Colorado came from utilizing his speed to get in behind, he was even more dangerous on Matchday 2 by combining with teammates in tight spaces and creating chances for others.
The Sounders will return to action on Saturday as they travel to face FC Cincinnati (4:30 p.m. PT | Watch Free on Apple TV) in their first road match of the 2023 season.
