The lineups are in at the Home Depot Center and Osvaldo Alonso is back in the starting lineup for the Sounders FC.
CARSON, Calif. – After just one game away, Osvaldo Alonso returned to the Sounders FC lineup on Saturday against Chivas USA as the Sounders look to bounce back from a pair of losses to the LA Galaxy in MLS play and the Tampa Bay Rowdies in the US Open Cup.
Alonso rejoins a lineup that is dwindled by injuries, suspensions and international duty.
Michael Gspurning will start at goalkeeper behind a back four of DeAndre Yedlin, Zach Scott, Djimi Traore and Leo Gonzalez. Alonso will pair in the midfield with Servando Carrasco, who is making his sixth consecutive start with the Sounders posting a 3-1-1 record in his starts. On the outside of midfield, Mauro Rosales will start on the right with Mario Martinez on the left. At forward, head coach Sigi Schmid will go with Obafemi Martins and Lamar Neagle, who combined for five goals and one assist in wins over the San Jose Earthquakes and FC Dallas on May 11 and May 18.
On the bench will be Marcus Hahnemann, Marc Burch, Jhon Kennedy Hurtado, Andy Rose, Alex Caskey, David Estrada and Sammy Ochoa.
The Sounders filled out the lineup without the services of forward Eddie Johnson and midfielder Brad Evans, who are away with the US National Team in preparation for World Cup qualifying matches, midfielder Steve Zakuani, who has missed the last five matches with a groin injury, and midfielder Shalrie Joseph, who is serving a suspension for a red card in the loss to the Galaxy.
For Chivas USA, interim coach Sacha van der Most made a few changes to the lineup, opting for a 4-5-1 formation.
In goal will be Dan Kennedy; Walter Vilchez, Joaquin Velazquez, Bobby Burling and Mario de Luna start on defense; the midfield is Eric Avila, Carlos Alvarez, Oswaldo Minda, Gabriel Farfan and Jorge Villafana; and the lone forward is Jose Correa.
On the bench will be Patrick McLain, Jose Manuel Rivera, Carlos Borja, Tristan Bowen, Miller Bolanos, Steve Purdy and Marvin Iraheta.
