Following the team’s 2-0 win over the Colorado Rapids at Lumen Field on Sunday night, Seattle Sounders winger Paul Rothrock was named to the MLS Team of the Matchday for Matchday 1.
Rothrock contributed to both goals of the night, ultimately earning him a spot on the TOTM bench.
Seven minutes into subbing on, Rothrock sprinted to the left sideline to keep the ball in play. From there, the Seattle local played a beautiful cross into the box for midfielder Albert Rusnák to redirect with his head into the back of the net to give the Rave Green the opening lead.
Then, in the 63rd minute, Jesús Ferreira produced a well-driven pass toward the left side of the eighteen-yard-box where Rothrock executed a one-time strike to extend the lead to 2-0.
Rothrock now has a total of 17 goals and 13 assists since joining the Sounders in 2023.
The Sounders return to action on Saturday, February 28 when they visit Real Salt Lake at America First Field (4:30 p.m. PT; Apple TV).
