RBNYvSEA 101: Sounders aim to keep momentum in cross-country road match at New York Red Bulls

Wolff Shipp

The Seattle Sounders are visiting the New York Red Bulls on Wednesday. Here is everything you need to know:

WHEN AND WHERE: Kickoff is at 5 p.m. PT at Red Bull Arena.

WHERE TO WATCH: The match will be televised on JOEtv and YouTube TV.

WHERE TO LISTEN: The match will air on 950 KJR AM and in Spanish on El Rey 1360 AM.

2018 RECORDS AND STANDINGS: Sounders: 3-7-2 (11 points, 10th West), Red Bulls: 7-4-2 (23 points, T-4th East).

ALL-TIME HISTORY: The Sounders are 5-4-3 all time against the New York Red Bulls, including a 1-3-2 mark on the road.

PREVIOUS MEETING: The Sounders won 3-1 last March as part of the Championship Celebration after winning MLS Cup 2016.

LODEIRO RETURNS: After missing out on being named to Uruguay's FIFA World Cup roster, midfielder Nicolás Lodeiro returned to the Sounders in a huge way. His second-half equalizer was a Goal of the Week nominee and Lodeiro was named to the MLS Team of the Week.

MORE INJURIES ARISE: In the 69th minute against D.C. United, defender Kelvin Leerdam exited the match with a leg injury. He did not travel with the club for Wednesday's match.

HOWL OF A GOAL: Midfielder Magnus Wolff Eikrem scored his first career MLS goal to give the Sounders the 2-1 advantage on Saturday. He was also profiled in this month's edition of Sounders Monthly.

U.S. MIDFIELD CLASH: Wednesday’s match will be a battle between two up-and-coming U.S. international midfielders in Seattle’s Cristian Roldan and New York's Tyler Adams. Roldan, 23, and Adams, 19, look to be key cogs in the future of the USMNT as it turns the page in 2018.

MR. WRIGHT: One of the most illustrious scorers in MLS history, 33-year-old forward Bradley Wright-Phillips has scored at least 17 goals in each of the past four seasons. With nine goals in 13 matches this year, Wright-Phillips is just five goals away from 100 career MLS goals... an incredible achievement considering 2014 was his first full season in New York.

RETURN OF THE BADGER: Midfielder Osvaldo Alonso returned to action as a substitute against D.C. United. It was his first MLS appearance in four weeks due to a groin injury. The 32-year-old team captain is the glue of the midfield, with his ability to transition possession from defense to offense in a blink of an eye.

SOUNDERS IN RUSSIA: Across the Pacific pond, two Sounders are gearing up for their first appearance at the FIFA World Cup. Gustav Svensson (Sweden) and Román Torres (Panama) have arrived in Russia with their respective teams and will begin play in the world's biggest sporting tournament next week.
