CHECKMATE: The Sounders made MLS headlines on Tuesday by acquiring Serbian international forward Dejan Joveljić from Sporting Kansas City in a $6M cash-for-player trade. The 27-year-old Designated Player has been one of the most productive strikers in the league since his arrival to the LA Galaxy in 2021 and will be eligible for Saturday’s match against Chicago. He’s racked up 67 goals and 22 assists in 165 MLS regular season and postseason appearances including helping the Galaxy lift MLS Cup 2024. A product of Balkan giants Red Star Belgrade, Joveljić also featured for Germany’s Eintracht Frankfurt, Austria’s Wolfsberger AC and Belgium’s Anderlecht prior to joining MLS.
STREAK SNAPPED: Seattle ended its eight-match MLS losing streak last weekend with a gutsy comeback draw at FC Cincinnati.
THOMAS IMPRESSES: With an inexperienced and heavily rotated lineup in front of him, Sounders goalkeeper Andrew Thomas showed out in Cincinnati. He made seven huge stops en route to earning a spot on the MLS Team of the Week bench.
CLUTCH KOSSA-RIENZI: Sounders defender Kalani Kossa-Rienzi leveled the match in Cincinnati for his third goal of the MLS season. He’s tied for second on the team in goals with Rusnák and Cristian Roldan.
KINGSTON SUSPENDED: The Sounders will be without midfielder Peter Kingston on Saturday, as the 25-year-old is suspended for yellow-card accumulation.

MIDWEEK LEAGUES CUP: Before heading to the Pacific Northwest, the Fire hosted Liga MX’s Monterrey on Tuesday in the quarterfinals of the 2026 Leagues Cup. Chicago fell 2-1, snapping its seven-match unbeaten run in all competitions.
WELL-ROUNDED: In their second season under former United States Men’s National Team Manager Gregg Berhalter, the Fire have become one of the most complete teams in MLS. They are fifth in Expected Goals For, seventh in Expected Goals Against and third in Expected Goal Difference.

With respect to Danish midfielder and back-to-back MLS All Star Philip Zinckernagel, there’s only one answer here. Chicago made headlines when it transferred then-Golden Boot leading forward Hugo Cuypers to Monterrey earlier this summer to make room for the signing of Lewandowski. The 38-year-old Polish international is widely considered one of the greatest strikers of all-time with over 700 career goals for the likes of Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich and FC Barcelona. Lewandowski has four goals so far in nine appearances for the Fire across all competitions.
