The Seattle Sounders are one step closer to Concacaf Champions Cup glory.
Following Wednesday night's 2-1 win against the Vancouver Whitecaps in Spokane, Wash., the Rave Green have advanced to the Quarterfinals of the continental tournament with 5-1 aggregrate victory in the Round of 16.
Seattle secured a massive 3-0 victory on the road at BC place in Leg One behind a brace from Paul Arriola and a goal from Paul Rothrock.
Vancouver struck first in Leg Two as Jeevan Badwal picked out the top corner with a precise finish in the 24th minute. The Sounders equalized through a Danny Musovski header off a cross from Tacoma Defiance player Peter Kingston in the 79th minute. Spurred on by the crowd at ONE Spokane Stadium, the Sounders found a winner four minutes later when Kingston served up another sensational cross to Rothrock at the back post for a close-range finish.Â
Back in 2022, the Sounders became the first-ever Major League Soccer club to win the modern era of the CCC (then Concacaf Champions League). A second continental title for Seattle would further cement their status as one of the giants of North American soccer.
The opponent, location, date and time for Sounders FC's Quarterfinal series will be determined in the coming days. Seattle will face the winner of the FC Cincinnati and Tigres Round of 16 matchup. Cincinnati holds a 3-0 lead in the fixture, with Leg Two taking place on Thursday, March 19 (6:00 p.m. PT).
