SEATTLE, WASH. – Seattle Sounders FC and its charitable partner, RAVE Foundation, today announced that the club is hosting a variety of activities and volunteer opportunities to commemorate Earth Day, an annual celebration with the goal to raise awareness and advocate for change around the issues most impacting the planet. This year, the club’s agenda includes a collaboration with longtime partner EarthGen, as part of EarthGen’s annual Day of Service campaigns on Thursday, April 20 and Tuesday, April 25, a community-focused Earth Day trash clean-up event hosted in partnership with Swire Coca-Cola and the Puget Soundkeeper Alliance on Tuesday, April 18 at Myrtle Edwards Park, as well as the celebration of the club’s commitment to Protect Our Planet at Sounders FC’s home match against Minnesota United FC on Saturday, April 22 (7:30 p.m. PT / Apple TV – Watch Free, 950 KJR AM, El Rey 1360 AM).

As part the Rave Green’s continued commitment to Protect Our Planet, a core tenet of the club’s official Social Justice Framework, Sounders FC continues its long-time collaboration with EarthGen, a local non-profit organization that equips youth to grow their power as changemakers for a sustainable future. Through this partnership, the club reaffirms its commitment to educate and positively impact youth about environmental justice while supporting a sustainability education curriculum at local elementary and middle schools to continue stewardship and upkeep of previous long-term investments of community-informed green spaces and outdoor classrooms. The club’s investment in these schools and in the communities that surround them includes natural habitat restoration, which contributes to cleaner air and leads to healthier communities.

This year, Sounders FC encourages fans to take action on Earth Day – and every day – by giving back to our planet. A variety of activities and volunteering opportunities can be found below for those interested in taking part in the annual celebration.

EARTH DAY TRASH CLEAN-UP EVENT

As part of the club’s commitment to Protect Our Planet while improving community health outcomes, the Rave Green are partnering with Swire Coca-Cola and Puget Soundkeeper Alliance to help collect and remove litter from Myrtle Edwards Park, a public park along the Elliott Bay waterfront north of Belltown in Seattle. The collective initiative is taking place on Tuesday, April 18 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. PT. at Myrtle Edwards Park (3130 Alaskan Way, Seattle, WA 98121).

The community-focused event this year includes former Sounder and current team Brand Ambassador Brad Evans, Sounders FC’s mascot Sammy the Sounder as well as Swire Coca-Cola and Puget Soundkeeper Alliance representatives.

EARTHGEN DAYS OF SERVICE

As part of Rave Green’s commitment to build greener, healthier spaces to play and to continue their long-term investments in local schools in support of youth who are most affected by environmental injustice, the club is collaborating this year with longtime partner EarthGen to support sustainability education curriculum at local schools and communities.

This year’s events, scheduled to take place on Thursday, April 20 (Chinook Middle School, 2:30 – 4:00 p.m. PT) and Tuesday, April 25 (Hilltop Elementary School, 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. PT; Sylvester Middle School 12:00 – 3:00 p.m. PT) are part of EarthGen Day of Service, an initiative created to help turn school campuses into living laboratories where students can learn about their connection to the environment. This collaborative project and joint effort align with Rave Green's commitment to Protect Our Planet, one of the four pillars of the club's Social Justice Framework.
