SEATTLE, WASH. – Sounders FC today selected Bryan Meredith in Stage One of the 2016 Re-Entry Draft, as the goalkeeper re-joins the club after spending the last three seasons with the San Jose Earthquakes. Meredith spent the 2011 and 2012 season in Seattle, making 12 MLS appearances. Additionally, defender Dylan Remick was selected by the Houston Dynamo in today’s draft.

“We’re excited to bring back Bryan into our organization,” General Manager & President of Soccer Garth Lagerwey said. “He is a solid veteran goalkeeper who understands the club’s winning culture, while also providing depth and experience at his position.”

Lagerwey added, “We’d also like to wish Dylan the best of luck with Houston. He’s been a hard-working player for our organization the past four seasons and was a part of several title-winning teams, including the squad that claimed the 2016 MLS Cup.”

Meredith, 27, was originally drafted by Seattle in the Second Round of the 2011 MLS SuperDraft. After an initial spell with USL Premier Development side Kitsap Pumas, Meredith joined Sounders FC in September of his rookie campaign. He debuted in net on October 18, 2011 in a 2-1 loss to Monterrey in CONCACAF Champions League. Meredith made his first MLS appearance in the second half against the LA Galaxy on May 2, 2012. In all, the Monmouth University graduate posted a 3-3-5 mark during the 2012 MLS season with a 1.27 goals against average and three shutouts. He also made three appearances in Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup play.

In addition to Meredith’s selection, the Houston Dynamo selected defender Dylan Remick. Remick, 24, played for Seattle since the 2013 season, when the Brown product was selected in the Second Round of the 2013 MLS SuperDraft. Remick made 44 league appearances, including 32 starts, for the Rave Green at left-back.

Players not selected today are eligible for Stage Two of the draft, which is taking place on Thursday, December 22 at 12:00 p.m. PT. Clubs have until 8:00 a.m. PT on Wednesday, December 21 to sign their own Re-Entry eligible players.

A player may choose to opt out of the Re-Entry Process prior to Stage Two of the draft. In such instances, the Right of First Refusal for the player remains with his previous club. Players who remain unselected after Stage Two are available to any MLS club on a first-come, first-served basis.

Sounders FC captured its first MLS Cup on Saturday with a penalty-shootout win over Toronto FC at BMO Field. Goalkeeper Stefan Frei earned the game’s MVP honors after making seven saves in 120 minutes of scoreless action before leading the Rave Green to victory via penalty-kicks, adding the 2016 Philip F. Anschutz Trophy to the club’s case alongside four Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cups and the 2014 Supporters’ Shield.
