Major League Soccer on Monday named Seattle Sounders defender Yeimar and forward Raúl Ruidíaz to the Week 30 MLS Team of the Week after a standout showing against Austin FC on Saturday. Additionally, midfielder Danny Leyva earned a spot on the bench after impressing yet again in the center of the park.
The Sounders built on the momentum established in a 2-1 win over the Houston Dynamo by trouncing fellow Texas side Austin FC 3-0 on the EQC Pitch at Lumen Field on Saturday. Ruidíaz bagged a first-half brace with a pair of poacher's finishes, taking his tally nine goals from 13 starts during the regular season. On the other side of the pitch, Yeimar put in a herculean effort to help preserve the clean sheet with one tackle, two blocks, 13 clearances, four interceptions, and eight of nine duels won.
Leyva, 19, made his ninth start of the campaign and second consecutive start alongside fellow Homegrown Player Josh Atencio. The young midfielder put in a composed, two-way shift against Austin's high-pressing midfield, as his range of passing and defensive instincts helped keep the opposition at bay.
The Sounders return to action on Saturday as they visit the Vancouver Whitecaps (7:08 p.m. PT; FOX 13+, Prime Video, 950 KJR AM, El Rey 1360AM) in a Cascadia clash.
