A battle to maintain possession led to a quick pass from forward Raúl Ruidíaz to Roldan in the center of the field. Just outside the 18-yard box and facing away from the goal, Roldan turned, and unleashed a shot that flew into the top-left corner.
The sensational strike in the 73rd minute gave the Sounders the lead after holding a 1-1 tie for most of the match. Roldan’s efforts went beyond scoring, clinching the win with an assist during stoppage time to teammate Nicolás Lodeiro, Th 3-1 victory for the Rave Green completed a season sweep of Minnesota after Seattle defeated the Loons 2-1 earlier in the year.
Roldan’s long-range finish continued the Sounders’ trend of scoring golazos against Minnesota in league play, with both Roldan and João Paulo each scoring several Goal of the Week nominees against the Loons in recent years.
