Following the team’s 1-0 win over San Diego FC on Wednesday night at Lumen Field, Seattle Sounders goalkeeper Stefan Frei and forward Jesús Ferreira were named to the MLS Team of the Matchday for Matchday 16.
Frei is selected as the lone goalkeeper in the Starting XI while Ferreira features on the bench.
Frei's presence in goal was a huge contributing factor in the Sounders' win over the No. 2 team in the Western Conference. Not only did he total seven saves for the Rave Green, but he capped off the night with a shutout at home.
Ferreira earned a spot on the TOTM bench after scoring the game-winner in the 58th minute. With his back to goal, the forward took a touch away from defender Christopher McVey inside the eighteen yard box, where he was able to turn his body just enough to rocket the ball into the lower corner of the net. His goal on Wednesday night marked his first for the Rave Green.
The Sounders return to action on Sunday to face Minnesota United (3 p.m. PT; MLS Season Pass on Apple TV | TICKETS) at Lumen Field.
