PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

2016 (Seattle / Gimnasia): Fernandez returned to Seattle midseason and started eight of 10 regular-season appearances for Sounders FC. After signing on July 28, 2016 – one day after fellow countryman Nicolás Lodeiro – he recorded a goal in a win against Real Salt Lake in the regular-season finale (October 23) and an assist in a 1-1 draw at San Jose (September 10). Fernandez also played in three of six postseason matches for Seattle en route to the club’s first MLS Cup title. 

2016 (Chicago Fire – Loaned to Gimnasia): Prior to joining Sounders FC, Fernandez made three appearances with Gimnasia.

2015 (Chicago Fire – Loaned to Gimnasia): Once again on-loan with Gimnasia, Fernandez set a career-high with 44 appearances across all competitions. He registered three goals and five assists during the campaign.

2014 (Chicago Fire – Loaned to Gimnasia): Fernandez went on-loan with Argentine side Gimnasia, where he played 14 matches across all competitions.

2013 (Chicago Fire – Loaned to Al-Rayyan, Nacional): To open the 2013 campaign, Fernandez played on loan for Al-Rayyan SC in Qatar, where he made five appearances. He then returned to Nacional on-loan for 14 matches to cap off the season.

2012 (Sounders FC / Chicago Fire): In his final season in the Emerald City, Fernandez recorded two goals and two assists in 12 appearances. On July 27, Fernandez was traded to Eastern Conference side Chicago Fire, where he scored two goals and added one assist in 13 matches.

2011 (Sounders FC): The 2011 campaign was a banner year for Fernandez, who netted a career-high nine goals in 29 matches, including 23 starts. Fernandez recorded his lone brace in the league on September 17 versus D.C. United.   

2009-2010 (Nacional / Sounders FC): While competing for Uruguayan side Nacional, Fernandez tallied four goals. In 2009, Fernandez was loaned to Portuguese side Vitoria, where he played in nine matches. The following year, the midfielder scored one goal in 11 games with Universidad de Chile. On July 29, Fernandez was signed as a Designed Player by Sounders FC. In his rookie campaign, Fernandez made four stars in 12 appearances, in which he scored two goals and registered an assist.

2008 (Puebla): For 12 matches, Fernandez competed for Mexican side Puebla.

2007-2008 (Montevideo Wanderers / Puebla): In his third season, Fernandez made 43 total appearances while with the Montevideo Wanderers, scoring three goals. For 12 matches in 2008, Fernandez competed for Mexican side Puebla.

2006-2007 (Atenas): In his second professional season, the midfielder made 15 total appearances and recorded three goals.

2005-2006 (Uruguay Montevideo): Fernandez made his professional debut with local club Uruguay Montevideo, in which he scored one goal in 10 appearances.

INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE

Since 2009, Fernandez has made 12 appearances for the Uruguayan National Team. Most notably, Fernandez was a member of the Uruguayan side that earned a fourth-place finish at the 2010 FIFA World Cup, alongside Sounders FC teammate Nico Lodeiro.
