Two quickfire goals in the second half were enough to hand Chivas USA the 2-1 win in Reserve League play.

CARSON, Calif. - Seattle Sounders FC fell to Chivas USA, 2-1, in the MLS Reserve League on Sunday at The Home Depot Center training field.

Seattle (1-2-1, 4 points) allowed two second-half goals to Caleb Calvert and Tristan Bowen as Chivas USA (2-0-0, 6 points) won despite a late own goal by defender Steven Purdy.

After Seattle had control of the first half, including opportunities by Sammy Ochoa and Eriq Zavaleta, the sides were scoreless at halftime. Chivas broked the deadlock in the 69th minute when midfielder Jose Manuel Rivera chipped a pass over the Seattle defense as Calvert broke inside the box. Calvert, 16, headed the ball past Marcus Hahnemann for the game's first goal.

Chivas doubled their lead in the 76th minute when Rivera found Josue Soto on the left side of the box, who sent a low cross through the box to Bowen and his left-footed shot found the back of the net.

The lead was cut one minute later when Purdy's headed clearance beat keeper Pat McLain for an own goal.

The first half featured several chances for Sounders FC, as Zavaleta and Shalrie Joseph had early shots from the top of the box that were stopped by the Chivas defense.

Sounders FC will visit the Vancouver Whitecaps FC on July 7 in the next MLS Reserve League match.
