PORTLAND, Ore. – David Estrada recorded a goal and assist as Seattle Sounders FC (4-6-2, 14 points) defeated the Portland Timbers (4-7-3, 15 points), 4-1, in the MLS Reserve League on Monday afternoon at JELD-WEN Field.

Seattle scored twice off of rebounds in the first half and added two late tallies while Portland failed to convert a first-half penalty and scored its lone goal on a second-half breakaway.

Estrada struck early with a goal in the 7th minute. Eriq Zavaleta blasted a shot from inside the box that was saved by a diving Milos Kocic, but the rebound fell to Estrada who tapped it in the open net from six yards out.

Sounders FC doubled its lead in the 34th minute when trialist Mike Azira converted another rebound. Zavaleta beat his man on the endline and found Philip Lund in the middle of the box. Kocic saved Lund’s shot with his foot but the loose ball bounced to Azira, who put it in the open net.

Portland pulled one goal back in the 54th minute when Sebastian Rincon stole the ball from a Seattle defender and sent a low shot inside the near post.

Seattle netted its third goal of the game in the 70th minute. Trialist Long Tan played Estrada behind the defense, who sent a cross to the far post that Andy Rose headed past Kocic.

Sounders FC added a fourth and final tally in the 82nd minute when a missed clearance fell to second-half substitute Cody Crook at the top of the box. Crook blasted a low right-footed shot that skipped through the crowd and into the net.

The Timbers nearly scored in the 26th minute on a penalty attempt. Defender Will Bates was whistled for a foul in the box on Rincon, who put the ensuing penalty kick wide of the post as Portland remained scoreless.

Seattle had a pair of dangerous chances in the first half when Lund’s shot in the 5th minute sailed just wide of the far post and Zach Scott’s header on a Marc Burch free kick in the 21st minute was saved by Kocic. Lund also had a chance in the 72nd minute but his free kick was stopped by a diving Kocic.

Sounders FC finished the match with 18 total shots, including a game-high eight shots from Lund. Kocic made eight saves in the game while Doug Herrick made zero saves on four shots against.

The match marked the final MLS Reserve League game of the season for both teams.
