2013 Year In Review: Top 10 Goals - Part II

Goals Of The Year Part II Image

We've gone over the first five of the Top 10 Goals of 2013...here are the remaining five with a pretty predictable winner at the top of the list.

Yesterday, we counted down the first five goals on our Top 10 Goals of 2013 list. A pair from Eddie Johnson (good luck in DC, friend), a late Djimi Traore winner and a Mauro Rosales free kick made up the initial quintet.

Top 10 Goals of 2013 - Part I

Which tallies will make the remaining few? You won't have to look too far as numbers five through numero uno are but a few line breaks away. The anticipation has been building for a solid 24 hours now so get ready.

Two guesses which goal tops the list...

5. Clint Dempsey vs. Los Angeles Galaxy (9/21/13, CenturyLink Field)

It was coming for months and months and then it finally happened. Your Sounders FC Designated Player Clint Dempsey got his first goal for the club in dramatic fashion against the LA Galaxy. Only a player like Dempsey could pull off a cheeky little flick like that that. Great goal. Looking forward to (way) more in 2014.

4. Lamar Neagle vs. San Jose Earthquakes (5/11/13, CenturyLink Field)

This goal was one of the finest examples of forward play on a soccer field that I've seen in MLS in 2013. First Neagle takes the ball down with the outside of his boot from an over the top through lump. Cuts inside beautifully, battles his defender and then fires near post with a lovely precision shot. It added to the Sounders rout and was a big play for Neagle in his 'comeback' season.

3. DeAndre Yedlin vs. Tigres (3/12/13, CenturyLink Field)

Talk about bursting onto the scene. Just two matches into the Sounders season, Yedlin made a name for himself (beyond the obvious hair comments) following this thunderous volley that started the Sounders turnaround in the match and the series. He's come a long way since then, notably an All-Star appearance and Rookie of the Year consideration, but this strike will always be known as one of his finest plays as a Sounder.

2. Brad Evans vs. Jamaica (6/7/13, Independence Park)

What a year it was for Evans, who was on the fringes of the National Team early in the season but quickly thrust himself into a starting role with his continued strong play at right back. Didn't hurt that he scored one of the biggest goals of the year against Jamaica in a vital World Cup qualifier.

Tied 1-1 after a late equalizer from Jermaine Beckford, Evans gave the USA all the points with a fantastic turning effort that made everyone in Seattle so proud to have him on the Sounders. What a celebration, too!

1. Djimi Traore vs. Tigres (3/12/13, CenturyLink Field)

Pretty obvious choice for No. 1 here. An absolutely fabulous and unstoppable effort from Traore just weeks into his Sounders FC career. Lining up the half volley from way outside the box, Traore struck the ball with every ounce of power he could muster and it sailed into the net off the crossbar.

As you can tell by the @LIVESounders goal call...I was pretty excited by this goal. Same can be said for everyone at the stadium as it went bonkers after the ball crossed the line. Oh, and the comeback was officially on at that point and just needed Eddie's final touch to put the Sounders into the semifinal of the CONCACAF Champions League.
