SEATTLE, WASH. – Seattle Sounders FC 2 today announced that it is holding open tryouts in Las Vegas December 12-13 at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. After all S2 open tryout events have concluded, a minimum of one player will be guaranteed a trial with the club ahead of its second season in the USL.
“We are excited for another chance to go to Las Vegas and see the talent in that area again,” said S2 Head Coach Ezra Hendrickson. “Last year’s event was very successful and we got a couple of very good players out of it, and we are looking to do the same this year so we can improve on our performance from last season.”
Players will be assessed by Hendrickson and other members of the Sounders FC, S2 and Sounders FC Academy technical staff, including S2 General Manager Andrew Opatkiewicz, Sounders FC Head Scout and Assistant Coach Kurt Schmid and Sounders FC Academy Head Scout Junior Gonzalez. In addition, other approved assessors are overseeing the tryouts, including goalkeeper coaches.
“Last year our Vegas tryout proved to be filled with talented players, and we were excited to invite quite a few to pre-season,’ said Opatkiewicz. “We’re looking forward to starting our tryout process in Vegas again this year and expect the field to be even better.”
Tryouts are open to male soccer players ages 16 and older. Check-in and registration are set to begin at 4:00 p.m. PT on Saturday, December 12 with games starting at 5:00 p.m. PT. Select participants will be chosen to compete in a full-sided game on Sunday, December 13 at 11:00 a.m. PT.
Two standouts from the 2014 Las Vegas Open Tryouts signed with S2 ahead of its inaugural season. Nigerian forward Qudus Lawal scored twice in ten matches for the Rave Green in the club’s inaugural season, while defender Choong sil Lim totaled 334 minutes in seven starts in 2015.
