Sounders FC Academy product Jordan Morris added another accolade to cap his amateur career Friday night, winning the MAC Hermann Trophy Award as the top player in college soccer.
Morris, the 21-year-old Mercer Island native who was a member of the Sounders Academy’s Class of 2013, led Stanford to the NCAA title last month after being named the Pac-12 Player of the Year and a First-Team All-American during his junior year with the Cardinal.
Morris topped Georgetown senior forward Brandon Allen and Creighton junior forward Fabian Herbers in the voting at the award ceremony in St. Louis, Mo.
Morris officially declared earlier this week that he will forego his senior year and turn pro. The Sounders have offered him the most lucrative Homegrown Player contract in league history, but Morris has not yet declared where he’ll go this year, and he’s set to begin a training stint with Bundesliga side Werder Bremen in the coming days before reporting to January camp with the U.S. national team in California later this month.
Morris notched a career-high 11 goals in 16 appearances for Stanford last season, despite missing time while on duty with the USMNT and U.S. Under-23 team.
He scored two goals in Stanford’s decisive 4-0 win over Clemson in the NCAA championship game on Dec. 13, and was named the offensive MVP of the tournament.
