Seattle Sounders FC announces key dates in advance of 2016 MLS campaign

SEATTLE, WASH. – Seattle Sounders FC today announced several key dates in advance of its 2016 campaign, headlined by the launch of the club’s new mobile app and a public unveiling of the club’s primary and alternate kits. Other notable events prior to the start of Seattle’s eighth MLS season include the Copa America draw, Sounders FC Media Day, a 2016 Kickoff Event at the Queen Anne Beerhall and the launch of a community initiative and contest to win a trip to Mexico City for the second leg of the 2015-2016 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League Quarterfinal Round against Club America.

Following a similar initiative last August surrounding the club’s match at CD Olimpia in Honduras, Sounders FC is once again teaming-up with the Seattle International Foundation (SIF) for an international community event, this time to tackle youth homelessness though community-building activities and projects in conjunction with Sounders FC Champions League Quarterfinal matches vs. Club America. Led by Sounders FC Director of Community Outreach Roger Levesque, efforts include youth clinics in Seattle and Mexico City, as well as financial commitments to support long-term community interventions in each region. Former Sounders FC star and Mexican international Gonzalo Pineda is set to be on-hand in Mexico City to inspire youth clinic participants. Sounders FC is set to unveil its new mobile app on Tuesday, February 16. The Sounders FC mobile app has been completely revamped for the 2016 MLS season, featuring a fully revised interface with more content, expanded functionality and new integrations. The app is available across iOs, Android and Windows phone platforms. Further information on the new app is being made available in the coming days. In coordination with launch of the mobile app, fans can expect to receive their Sounders FC Season Ticket Members boxes in the mail Tuesday and beyond.

The club is set to debut its new 2016 primary and alternate kits this week, beginning with an online unveiling on Wednesday, February 17 through the new Sounders FC app. Fans have their first chance to get their hands on one of these new jerseys this Friday, February 19 at an event located at the CenturyLink Field Pro Shop at 6:00 p.m. PT. Sounders FC players are set to be on-hand to debut the two new kits ahead of the club’s opening match on Tuesday, February 23 against Club America in the first leg of the 2015-2016 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League Quarterfinal Round.

Following the match against Club America, a 2016 Kickoff Event is being held on Wednesday, February 24 at the Queen Anne Beerhall. Hosted by new radio play-by-play voice Matt Johnson, all Sounders FC players and coaches are set to be on-hand for a meet and greet with fans in attendance. Tickets for this event will be made available for purchase on Tuesday, February 16 through MatchPass rewards on the mobile app, with all proceeds benefiting the club’s charitable efforts.

Sounders FC Media Day is being held on Monday, February 22 at CenturyLink Field, with player access and a press conference set to take place following the club’s training session on the newly-installed turf on the Xbox Pitch. Accredited media may also claim season-long credentials and parking at Media Day. Media are reminded that Sounders FC season-long credentials are not valid at next Tuesday’s SCCL match vs. Club America, and that those interested in covering the match must apply through CONCACAF here. Further details regarding Media Day parking instructions and training access times will be issued later this week.

Sounders FC's eighth season begins on Sunday, March 6 at home against Sporting Kansas City at 4:00 p.m. PT on FOX Sports 1. The club looks to build upon the success of seven consecutive MLS Cup Playoff appearances, four Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup titles and the 2014 Supporters' Shield. For the eighth consecutive season, Sounders FC is set to play all regular season home matches on the Xbox Pitch at CenturyLink Field, a venue that set a new MLS average attendance record in 2015 with 44,247 fans per game supporting the Rave Green.
