Seattle Sounders in Guadalajara: A running timeline ahead of GDLvSEA

What’s up! With our CONCACAF Champions League showdown against Chivas coming up on Wednesday evening (7 p.m. PT; go90.com, Univision Deportes, 950 KJR AM), I thought it would be fun to share the team’s journey to Guadalajara. Follow along for updates.

Wednesday, March 14

MATCHDAY - There's not much here, to be honest. With an evening match, the players did an activation during the day centered on stretching, then a team meal in the late afternoon. This gave me a good opportunity to escape and see the city. We met up with Hugo Garcia, a huge Sounders supporter from Seattle, who was born in Guadalajara and is also a big Chivas fan. It was awesome to see some of the city's sights and hear his passion for both of his clubs.

7:31 p.m. MT - Lights, camera, action. Gonzo was swarmed by local media members, while Román Torres and Head Coach Brian Schmetzer represented the club at the CONCACAF press conference. Off to the hotel, we'll be back.

7:18 p.m. MT
- After some technical drills with an emphasis on finishing, the squad wrapped up the training session at Estadio Akron. Will Bruin treated us to a video as he walked off the pitch (not seen: Chad Marshall giving him a long stare in attempt to mess up... Will only needed one take!)

5:59 p.m. MT - Estadio Akron! We arrived at the stadium for the first time for a training session. The 50,000-seat stadium sits outside of Guadalajara in a city known as Zapopan. Built in 2010, Estadio Akron is known for its unique berm that surrounds the stadium's walls.

12:40 p.m. MT â€“ It's time for a walk in the park. We boarded a bus and drove to El Bosque Los Colomos, an urban park northeast of the city. The Colomos, as its commonly referred, is a unique area that features trails and concrete walkways. Out of nowhere, a sprawling and tranquil water garden, filled with koi fish, turtles, small birds and squirrels, appeared. It was a huge hit.

12:25 p.m. MT â€“ Gonzo isn't the only one getting the local love. Clint Dempsey has been stopped for a few selfies since we arrived (and yes, that's Will Bruin as the photographer).

Morning â€“ The sun is shining! The hotel is located on a busy avenue filled with shaded trees and there’s a nice view from the hotel of the surrounding buildings. Here’s the view from my room:

The team grabbed breakfast at the hotel. Of note, older brother Roldan caught a good moment of little brother Roldan.

9:15 p.m. MT â€“ We’re greeted by a group of media members outside the airport, and of course, the star of the show is former Chivas great Gonzalo Pineda.

8:31 p.m. MT â€“ Hola, Mexico! Time to get through customs and grab all the luggage (including team equipment), but first we’re on a shuttle bus from the airplane to the airport.

Follow along on @Snapchat to see the squad in Mexico! 🤣

12:54 p.m. PT â€“ Farewell, Seattle, we’re off to Guadalajara! Well, not quite...Only to Dallas for now. It’s just for a couple hours, though. The longer Dallas stint will come at the end of the week when we play FC Dallas on the road on Sunday afternoon.
