Five Sounders FC Players Named to Final 23-Man Rosters for 2019 CONCACA Gold Cup

SEATTLE, WASH. – Following yesterday’s deadline for final 23-man rosters for the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup, the five Sounders FC players named to provisional rosters have all been selected for their respective final 23-man squads. Jordan Morris (United States), Cristian Roldan (United States), Román Torres (Panama), Joevin Jones (Trinidad & Tobago) and Jordy Delem (Martinique) are all set to participate in this month’s Gold Cup, set primarily in cities across the United States.

Combined with the five other players called, Sounders FC has a club-record 10 First Team players called in to senior national team duty this month. With the club having over three weeks off from MLS action, fans can watch Seattle players participate in the Gold Cup, Copa América and European Championship Qualifiers.

After a 1-0 loss to Jamaica on Wednesday evening, U.S. Men's National Team Head Coach Gregg Berhalter selected his final 23-player roster for the Gold Cup, with Morris and Roldan included in a mix of veterans and promising young talent. The United States pursues its seventh confederation championship title, as the 16-team tournament marks the first official competition for the USMNT in the 2022 World Cup cycle. Morris has 27 career caps and five goals, while Roldan earned his 10th international appearance with a start on Wednesday vs. Jamaica.

In its final tune-up before the Gold Cup, the U.S. faces Venezuela in Cincinnati on Sunday, June 9 (11:00 a.m. PT / FOX, UníMas). Once the Gold Cup begins, the Stars & Stripes are set to play in Group D alongside Panama, Trinidad & Tobago and Guyana, meaning Morris and Roldan will face teammates Torres (June 26) and Jones (June 22) in the Group Stage. Berhalter’s squad kicks off Gold Cup action on June 18 vs. Guyana at Allianz Field in Minnesota.

Torres, the 33-year-old captain for Los Canaleros, has earned 98 career caps and led his country to its first FIFA World Cup last summer in Russia. Panama’s opening match will be against Sounders FC teammate Jones and Trinidad & Tobago on Tuesday, June 18 at 4:30 p.m. PT at Allianz Field in Saint Paul, Minnesota.

Jones has 71 career caps and eight goals for the The Soca Warriors, who he will lead in Group D action against Panama, the U.S. and Guyana. The 27-year-old returned to Sounders FC last week after signing last month, making his first two MLS appearances of 2019 against FC Dallas and the Montreal Impact.

Delem, a regular call-up for Martinique, joins Les Matinino and is set to play in Group A alongside Mexico, Canada and Cuba. Martinique opens Group Stage play on June 15 vs. Canada at the Rose Bowl. Delem and Jones both stayed with Seattle to play in Wednesday’s match at FC Dallas.

In addition to the players at the Gold Cup, five other Sounders FC players have been called into international duty this month. Nicolás Lodeiro (Uruguay), Raúl Ruidíaz (Peru) and Xavier Arreaga (Ecuador) are all set to participate in the 2019 Copa América, while Gustav Svensson (Sweden) joins his country for a pair of European Championship Qualifiers. Additionally, Brad Smith (Australia) made an appearance as a substitute earlier today in a 1-0 loss to South Korea in Busan.

Following Wednesday's loss in Montreal, Brian Schmetzer's club takes on the Portland Timbers in a Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup match on June 12 at Cheney Stadium in Tacoma (7:30 p.m. PT / ESPN+). The Rave Green resume MLS play on Saturday, June 29 vs. Vancouver Whitecaps FC (7:00 p.m. PT / JOEtv, YouTube TV, 950 KJR AM, El Rrey 1360 AM).
