All three Seattle Sounders Academy sides were in action over the weekend as they hosted their Cascadia Rivals, the Portland Timbers.

Sounders FC 3 vs. Portland Timbers 0 | Sept. 29
The youngest squad kicked off the rivalry weekend in resounding fashion, toppling the Timbers 3-0 behind goals from Antonio Herrera, Oscar Rincon and Abraham Gonzalez. Signaling the club’s commitment to the ‘If you’re good enough, you’re old enough’ philosophy, three players from the 2005 age group played significant minutes.
Not to be outdone, the U-17s dismantled Portland 4-1 despite falling behind 1-0 just 17 minutes into the match. The young Sounders leveled through winger Alex Villanueva in the 34th minute off a through-ball from Austin Brummett, who was making his first start for the U-17s in the 2018-19 after an excellent run of form with the U-15s. Striker Lomeri Torujo grabbed the go-ahead goal in the 41st minute, and added two more after the break for a 4-1 win.
Fresh off of call-ups to the U.S. U-17 national team, the trio of Alfonso Ocampo-Chavez, Josh Atencio and Danny Robles powered the U-19s to a commanding 4-0 victory over the Timbers. Atencio bossed the midfield all afternoon with a two-way performance, while Robles supplied assists on two of the goals. With the team carving out a host of chances, Edwin Aquino and an Ocampo-Chavez hat trick provided the scoring touches.
The U-15s and U-17s are off to Salt Lake City, Utah, this weekend for the first round of Generation adidas Cup qualifying. Listed below is the schedule for both squads.

On Tuesday, the club announced that Alec Diaz and Danny Robles had signed with Sounders FC 2. There are now six players under contract with the USL outfit from last season’s U-17 side that won the USSDA national championship.
With Ocampo-Chavez and Torujo registering hat tricks over the weekend, Sounders Academy now has four players to achieve that feat across all age groups this season. Ray Serrano bagged three goals in a 6-1 win for the U-17s over Crossfire Premier on Sept. 8, while Brummett has hit that milestone in two of his three appearances for the U-15s this season.
Moving On Up
In the U-17s’ 4-1 win over the Timbers, center back Angel Martinez, a 2005, started and played the full match at the heart of Seattle’s defense. On Saturday, 15-year-old midfielder Danny Leyva went the full 90 in S2’s road match against San Antonio FC, making the youngest player in club history to earn his professional debut.
