Schmetzer Letter Cover

An open letter to Seattle from Brian Schmetzer

Dating back to 1974 there have been many great players and coaches associated with the Seattle Sounders. Our organization has always had a winning tradition. Our record in MLS speaks for itself. I am proud of the effort and community involvement by the club in my hometown and throughout the Northwest. It is an honor for me to work with such a hugely popular, national and internationally known club for the coming future.

Leadership of the club on the field could not be possible without my coaching staff, the ones currently with us as well as those who have moved on over the years. I give them a lot of credit in setting and maintaining a culture of winning. I am fortunate to have had early experiences with coaches such as Alan Hinton and Jimmy Gabriel, Sounder legends. The ability to work under Sigi Schmid gave me insight and perspective into what it takes to be successful in MLS.

Technical staffs, coaches cannot be successful without support from their ownership and front office. Over the years Adrian and Garth have provided resources and expertise to help make the club maintain success. I am grateful to all the people who provide the game day experience which helps the players perform any given matchday. There are many talented people – performance staff, medical staff and support staff – all working behind the scenes, doing their jobs to a high standard.

I’m very pleased to be able to continue my coaching career with the club that is so close to my heart. Seattle Sounders FC has excelled in its commitment to winning and the community. I take my stewardship of the club with great honor and privilege, as the connection with our fans is sacred and has been at the cornerstone of our franchise.

Your coach and steward,

Brian Schmetzer
