2021 RECORDS AND STANDINGS: Seattle: 9-2-5 (32 points, 1st West), San Jose: 3-7-5 (14 points, 11th West)

PREVIOUS MEETING: The Sounders defeated the Earthquakes 1-0 in Northern California on May 12 behind a golazo from Cristian Roldan. His brother, Alex, finished the match in goal and helped keep the clean sheet after Stefan Frei left injured late.

FORM GUIDE (most recent first): LWLWD, SJ: DDDDL

ROLDAN RETURNS: Alex, at least, will be back from a successful first international tournament at the Concacaf Gold Cup with El Salvador. He scored in his debut and helped lead La Selecta to the quarterfinals. Cristian, meanwhile, recorded a match-winning assist for the United States and helped push them past Jamaica and into the semifinals against Qatar.

SEATTLE SUPREMACY: The Sounders are unbeaten in their last 14 matches against the Earthquakes (8-0-6) dating back to 2015.

RESETTING AT HOME: Seattle fell to Sporting Kansas City last weekend in what was just its first home loss in 17 matches in all competitions. The Sounders, who coincidentally began that streak with a 7-1 thrashing of the ‘Quakes, went 13-0-4 during that unbeaten run.

LEAKY DEFENSE: The Earthquakes have conceded 25 goals in 15 matches this season, which is tied for second-worst in the Western Conference. Only the LA Galaxy (26) have allowed more.

HOMEGROWN HERO: San Jose is led by 17-year-old Homegrown Cade Cowell, who is having a breakout season. He leads the team in goals with four and is tied for first in assists with four as well.

YUEILL BE MISSED: Like Cristian Roldan, San Jose midfielder and U.S. teammate Jackson Yueill is away with the USMNT at the Concacaf Gold Cup. The 24-year-old is one of Head Coach Matías Almeyda’s key pieces in the center of the park.
