Major League Soccer on Monday named Seattle Sounders winger Léo Chú to the Matchday 6 Team of the Matchday following his goal and assist in the Rave Green's 2-1 road victory over LA Galaxy on Saturday. Additionally, forward Jordan Morris and goalkeeper Stefan Frei have been named to the Team of the Matchday bench.
This marks the second straight week in which Chú and Morris have received this league-wide accolade after their historic attacking output against Sporting Kansas City on Matchday 5. Seattle Sounders players have earned spots on the Team of the Matchday in four out of the opening six weeks of the 2023 MLS regular season.
The inclusion of Chú, Morris and Frei is well deserved after the trio combined to lead the Sounders to a gutsy 2-1 win at the Galaxy. For the second straight week, Chú set Morris up for the opening goal with an inch-perfect cross from the left flank. The Brazilian winger then bagged the game-winning goal with a long-range effort into the bottom corner to give Seattle a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.
In the second half, Frei stepped into the match-winning role as he produced a string of clutch saves. With the Galaxy throwing numbers forward in search of an equalizer, Frei stood tall and repelled wave after wave of attack as Seattle secured three points on the road for the second week running.
The Sounders are back in action this weekend as they welcome St. Louis CITY SC (7:30 p.m. PT; Watch free on Apple TV | TICKETS) to Lumen Field on Saturday. CITY enters the weekend with the best record in MLS despite being an expansion side, but a win at home in the fortress of Lumen Field would see the Sounders leap into first in the Western Conference.
